After a short speech, he field questions from the audience for over an hour. The topics ranged from protecting water rights to defending the 2nd Amendment.

Geri Byrne, Modoc County Republican Party Chairman, said “This is one of the best turnouts I have ever seen for a political campaign event in Modoc. The residents of Modoc County are hungry for real conservative leadership and Tom McClintock is that person.”

The Alturas event followed Wednesday’s successful event in Susanville at which more than 100 people attended.

Record Turnout for McClintock in Lassen County

Tuesday, March 18th, 2008

Sen. Tom McClintock campaigned in Susanville this morning, having a breakfast with local residents at the Sage Hen Restaurant. More than a hundred people, a record turnout, showed up and filled in the restaurant to capacity, taking over the entire restaurant.

Speaking before the enthusiastic crowd, Sen. McClintock spoke to the need to restore to Congress the traditional Republican values of limited government, fiscal responsibility and individual liberty to Washington DC. He also addressed local issues concerning water and land rights issues.

A local supporter who was at the breakfast said, “It would be a welcome relief to know that at least our congressman knows ‘where the bread comes from’ to begin with.” At the end of the breakfast he told Sen. McClintock that, “You have my vote.”

This first stop in Susanville will be the first in many campaign stops throughout the district as he campaigns throughout the 4th congressional district.

Taxpayer Group Endorses McClintock!

Sunday, March 16th, 2008

Sacramento – The California Taxpayer Protection Committee has endorsed State Senator Tom McClintock for Congress in the 4th Congressional District.  As a statewide grassroots taxpayer advocacy organization, with its affiliated political action committee and a slate mail operation, the California Taxpayer Protection Committee can now dedicate its substantial resources to electing Tom McClintock to Congress.

“The election of Tom McClintock to Congress is our top priority statewide,” said Committee spokesman Richard Paul.  “Tom McClintock is the perfect antidote to our fiscally irresponsible, tax-and-spend Congress.  The pork barrel spending lobby had better hope he doesn’t get elected because he will be their worst nightmare.”

The nine-term incumbent in the Fourth District, Congressman John Doolittle, announced his retirement in January, creating a rare “wide open” Republican primary that has attracted nationwide interest.  With Tom McClintock’s entry into the race, taxpayer advocates have quickly coalesced behind his campaign.  He is now the clear front-runner in this race.

“While other so-called taxpayer organizations appear to have sold their endorsements to the highest bidder,” said Paul, “the California Taxpayer Protection Committee has never taken a penny from Tom McClintock or his campaign, nor from any of the other candidates in this race.  He has not asked for our endorsement and we are completely independent of his campaign.  We are supporting McClintock because he is California’s leading statesman on tax policy, fiscal responsibility, and spending restraint in government.  We need a leader like that in Congress.”

The California Taxpayer Protection Committee is a statewide volunteer organization dedicated to tax reform, tax and fee reduction, tax fairness, tax simplification, and the efficient, effective, and honest expenditure of government revenues.  The Committee has run and contributed to numerous statewide and local ballot measures.

McClintock Launches Campaign for Congress

Monday, March 3rd, 2008

AUBURN, CA—State Senator Tom McClintock, before a gathering of friends and supporters on the steps of the historic Placer County Courthouse in Auburn, officially launched his campaign for 4th Congressional District on Tuesday.

McClintock received immediate endorsements from area lawmakers, including Senator Sam Aanasted, Assemblyman Ted Gaines, Assemblyman Rick Keene, Auburn City Councilman Kevin Hanley, and Yuba County Supervisor Dan Logue.  Nevada County Supervisor Sue Horne, who was also in attendance, endorsed McClintock last Friday.  Eric Egland, another candidate in the congressional race, announced that he would immediately end his campaign and endorse McClintock.

McClintock was joined by his wife, Lori and together the McClintocks thanked the many people throughout the district who have come forward to offer their encouragement and support.

McClintock’s Remarks:

I’ve listened closely to your voices and to your counsel.  And I am here now to ask for your
consideration of my candidacy for Congress.

The people of these communities already know me very well.  Seven times I have appeared on the ballot here, and seven times the people of this district have responded with overwhelming margins of support, for which I am deeply humbled and very grateful.

Like all of you, I believe in the founding vision of America; in a nation whose government’s purpose is to defend our natural rights as individual citizens.

And like all of you, I watched as Ronald Reagan brought a new energy to that vision.  Our generation knew a time when it truly was morning again in America.  I want our children to know what that feels like.

It is true that we had a Republican Congress and a Republican president and they squandered Reagan’s legacy.   They abandoned our Republican principles.  I want to return to them.

The fundamental purpose of our national government is to defend our borders.

We want our nation’s sovereignty back.   The fundamental design of our national government is to maximize individual freedom and minimize the burdens of government on our people.  Government is not our nanny and our national treasury is not a grab-bag for politicians.

We want our families back and our families’ earnings back.

The fundamental promise of our national government is to protect our basic rights as Americans: our freedom of speech, our property rights, and our right of self defense.  We want our constitution back.

It is time that Republicans returned to our traditional principles of constitutional government.  Until we do so, we cannot succeed in saving our country.  Once we do so, we cannot fail.

The people here in this congressional district - more than any other in the state — have cheered me and encouraged me during the 22 years that I have spent at our state capitol to defend these principles.  You know me.  You know that I have always steered a straight course - I have never wavered from the principles that once united all of us as Americans.  And I will not
rest until those principles have been restored to our government.

And so, to the good people of the Fourth Congressional District, I ask you to consider the record and the principles that I bring to this campaign.  And if you will have me, I would be proud to represent you in our Congress,” McClintock concluded.
